House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that it was "beyond inappropriate" for President Donald Trump to lash out at her and call her a "nasty, vindictive, awful person" while being interviewed in Normandy.
"As we go down this path to seek the truth for the American people and to hold the president accountable, it has nothing to do with politics or any campaign", she said.
Tensions between Pelosi and Trump have escalated in the past week after Pelosi reportedly told Democratic leaders in private that she wants to see the President "in prison".
For part of Trump's presidency, he generally refrained from trash-talking Pelosi as he does many others, but that ended in recent weeks as Democrats intensified their investigations of the president and discussed possibly impeaching him.
"We won a big lawsuit on the wall, brought by Nancy Pelosi", Trump said.
Pelosi noted that she had declined to criticize Trump during a television interview in France because she does not criticize the president when overseas. Do people think there's some impeachable offences that the President committed? Yes. "How much more can they bear of the president's unethical behavior that they think that they are honoring their oath of office?"
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi slammed President Donald Trump.
"If now isn't the time ... what is the bar, what is the line that we're waiting to be crossed for an impeachment inquiry, and so far it doesn't seem like there is one", the New York Democrat said. "They should begin impeachment proceedings", he told Mika Brzezinski.
Pelosi repeated her previously expressed view that impeachment of Trump is "not off the table", but stopped short of saying whether she has an obligation to mount an impeachment inquiry. The answer is obvious, and Pelosi is trying every strategy she can think of to make her colleagues realize their folly before it's too late.
