Jason Roy stars in England's victory over Bangladesh

England Cricket Team opening pair of Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow were at their best in the early hours of their ICC Cricket World Cup match against Bangladesh.

England defeated South Africa by 104 runs in the inaugural match of the mega event at London on May 30, and later were beaten by Pakistan by 14 runs at Nottingham on June 3.

The Test gloveman was behind the stumps after Jos Buttler suffered a hip injury during a typically dashing 64.

Shakib Al Hasan compiled an excellent 121, a knock which put the left-hander top of the tournament run-scoring charts - above Roy - but he could not prevent Bangladesh sinking to a second straight loss, following Wednesday's narrow reverse against New Zealand.

Roy and his opening partner Bairstow (51) ended up stitching a 128-run opening stand.

Joe Root scored 21 before he played on off the bowling of Mohammad Saifuddin.

However, Bairstow did not last long after, as he was caught by Mehdy Hasan off a Mashrafe Mortaza delivery.

The in-form Roy completed a 92-ball century in weird fashion when, not looking, he collided with umpire Joel Wilson as he completed what should have been a single to take him to 97, only for Mohammad Mithun at deep square leg to misfield a ball that went for four.

England's Jason Roy (L) and Jonny Bairstow during the World Cup match against Bangladesh.

Morgan (35) and Stokes (6) then fell in the space of three balls - skying Mehidy and Mustafizur Rahman respectively - only for Plunkett and Woakes to run amok at the death.

On a Sophia Gardens ground where they famously beat Australia in a 2005 ODI, Bangladesh were eventually dismissed for 280 with seven balls to spare.

Roy kept his eye on the ball the whole way to ensure it was going for four as he was running and - unaware of his surroundings - crashed straight into umpire Joel Wilson.

England next take on West Indies in Southampton whereas Bangladesh will play Sri Lanka.
