Trump's 'genocidal taunts' will not end Iran - Zarif

U.S. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, warned Iran that it will face destruction if it seeks a fight, while Iranian officials said their country isn't looking for war.

The South Carolina Republican, one of the president's most dutiful supporters, fired off his bellicose tweet after getting a briefing from National Security Adviser John Bolton, an Iran hawk who has long argued for regime change in the country.

Iran's foreign minister has met with his visiting counterpart from Oman, a Gulf nation that in the past has served as an intermediary between the United States and the Islamic Republic.

The heightened rhetoric follows last week's attacks on Saudi oil assets and the firing of a rocket into Baghdad's heavily fortified "Green Zone" on Sunday, home to government buildings and foreign embassies.

The inflammatory tweet comes as relationship between Washington and Tehran has become increasingly strained in recent weeks, raising concerns about a potential U.S. -Iran conflict.

Mr. Trump tweeted, "If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran".

Israel has announced that in the event of a full-blown armed conflict between Iran and the usa, the Jewish state would not play an active role and would only join the hostilities if it was attacked by Iran or its proxies, the Israel Hayom media outlet reports. Trump had seemed to soften his tone after the US recently sent warships and bombers to the region to counter an alleged, unexplained threat from Iran.

King Salman invited Gulf leaders and Arab League member states to two emergency summits in Mecca on May 30 to discuss recent "aggressions and their consequences", the kingdom's official SPA news agency reported late Saturday.

However, Trump has stated that in an interview with Fox News that he is not seeking a conflict with Tehran although his country is ready to act if necessary.

Earlier this month, Trump said he'd like to see Iran call him, which some saw as an indication the US was open to negotiations with Tehran.

Saudi Arabia has accused Tehran of ordering last week's drone strikes on two oil pumping stations in the kingdom, an attack claimed by Iran-backed Huthi rebels in Yemen.

Last week, the United States ordered all non-essential personnel out of Iraq after surveillance photos showed Iranian militia loading missiles on ships.

Mohammad Javad Zarif posted his own message on Monday on Twitter, saying Trump had been "goaded" into "genocidal taunts".

Saudi Arabia is the major U.S. ally in the region.

Al-Jubeir also noted that an investigation, led by the UAE, into the tanker incident is underway.

May 12: The United Arab Emirates says four commercial ships off its eastern coast "were subjected to sabotage operations", just hours after Iranian and Lebanese media outlets air false reports of explosions at a nearby Emirati port.

He said the crew of an Iranian oil tanker that had been towed to Saudi Arabia early this month after a request for help due to engine trouble were still in the kingdom receiving the "necessary care".

Oil supplies are sufficient and stockpiles still rising despite massive output drops from Iran and Venezuela, said Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates said at the meeting in Jeddah. But he's also signaled that the US will respond to any provocations and asserted that Tehran needs to initiate any talks.

"I just don't want that to happen with nuclear weapons and they can't be threatening us".

Iran has threatened that in 60 days it would resume enrichment beyond the 3.67% level unless remaining signatories of the deal - Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany - find a way to safeguard its vital oil and banking sectors.
