Boeing records zero MAX orders

Chinese airlines operated 97 of the 371 737 MAX jets in service before the grounding, the most of any country, according to Flightglobal data. "As part of this effort, we're making progress on the 737 MAX software update that will prevent accidents like these from ever happening again", the CEO said in his statement. Two crashes, one in October a year ago and another last month, killed 346 people and led to the grounding of the aircraft worldwide.

Some of the routes which are cancelled on both April 9 and 10 include Hyderabad, Dubai, Salalah, Kuwait, Bahrain, Dammam, Bombay, Riyadh and Nairobi.

The Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety published a preliminary report into the crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, finding that the pilots were unable to regain control of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft despite following Boeing's safety procedures after the plane's automated flight control systems repeatedly activated due to a faulty sensor.

Total orders, an indication of future demand, fell to 95 aircraft in the first quarter from 180 a year earlier.

Chicago-based Boeing's first-quarter 737 deliveries tumbled about 33 percent, pushing total aircraft deliveries down 19 percent to 149 from a year earlier.

Boeing suspended Max deliveries in mid-March after regulators grounded the planes.

The latest variant of Boeing's 737 family, which makes up the bulk of its narrow-body production, has been viewed as the likely workhorse for global airlines for decades and central to Boeing's long-running battle against Airbus.

Boeing said on Friday it would cut monthly production of the 737 Max jets by 20 per cent, starting mid-April, without giving an end-date.

March deliveries are more than half the rate of deliveries in the two previous months, which amounted to 24 MAX jets in January and 27 in February.

Boeing's shares, which have lost about 13% since the crash, were down 1.66 percent at $368.32 in afternoon trading.

Boeing began taking orders for the single-aisle jetliner in 2011 and delivered its first Max plane to Malindo Air, a subsidiary of Lion Air Group, in May 2017.
