Trump Fires Head Of Secret Service

CNBC added, "White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says, adding that President Donald Trump "has selected James M. Murray, a career member of the USSS, to take over as director beginning in May".

U.S. Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex" Alles is stepping down from his post, officials said Monday, in the latest shake-up at the Department of Homeland Security following outgoing Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen's resignation.

The Secret Service does not determine who is invited or welcome at Mar-a-Lago; this is the responsibility of the host entity.

Despite the security breach, Trump signaled his support for the agents.

Still, it comes amid a spate of turnover across DHS that began last week when Trump withdrew his Immigration and Customs Enforcement director's nomination to stay on permanently.

Two officials told the Associated Press that Alles's departure stems from a personality conflict within the agency.

Her departure had been long rumored particularly after criticism of the administration's 2018 family separation policy at the border with Mexico and as United States border officials estimated that 100,000 migrants were apprehended at the southern border in March, the highest level in a decade. Alles, who served more than three decades in the Marine Corps and retired as a major general in 2011, previously held a top post at U.S. Customs and Border Protection before taking the post at Secret Service.

A DHS official described the reported firings to CNN as "a near-systematic purge".

Trump instructed his acting chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, to fire Alles, CNN reported, citing multiple administration officials.

A source familiar with the director said his ouster was not related to the recent scrutiny the Secret Service got after a Chinese woman illegally entered the President's Mar-a-Lago club carrying Chinese passports and a flash drive containing malware.

L. Francis Cissna, director of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services agency, and department General Counsel John Mitnick also are expected to be out of their jobs soon, CNN reported.
