Editorial cartoons for March 31, 2019: Mueller report, Special Olympics, Obamacare

The dictator appoints someone who exonerates him.

US President Donald Trump arrives at Palm Beach International Airport in Florida on March 22, 2019.

While De Niro's Mueller hasn't drawn any conclusions about whether or not Trump obstructed justice, Bryant's Barr happily declares him "clean as a whistle".

"We now know that there was no official intelligence that was used to start this investigation", Nunes said.

Over the course of the past 18 months, Republicans and Democrats have argued over the Trump campaign's involvement, making their respective points of view on "Sunday Morning Futures". "What happened to me should never happen to another president of the United States".

Bill Maher went off tonight over AG Bill Barr's summary of Robert Mueller's report, blasting the attorney general and even saying people shouldn't be putting so much faith in the special counsel.

Other news in this week's cartoon commentary include: Education Secretary Betsy DeVos's short-lived plan to cut federal funding for the Special Olympics; the Trump administration's decision to ask the courts to invalidate the entire Affordable Care Act, based on a judge's ruling that it is unconstitutional; and the uproar over a Chicago prosecutor's decision to drop the charges against Jussie Smollett, the actor accused of faking a hate crime assault.

Although the Washington Post did not respond to Trump directly, Josh Dawsey, a White House reporter for the Post, also defended both organizations.

Earlier in the day, Barr sent a letter to Congress, informing lawmakers that the Department of Justice may release the report on the two-year-long Russian Federation investigation "by mid-April, if not sooner", after the redacting of classified information. Barr said he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein decided on their own that Mueller's evidence was insufficient to establish that the president committed obstruction.

Even Barr's summary acknowledges that Russian Federation did interfere with the 2016 election, so why is the Trump administration doing absolutely nothing to prevent future interference?
