Tiger Holes Out From 82 Yards for Eagle at WGC-Match Play

We finally leave Florida and make our first of four scheduled trips to Texas for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

Woods had to beat Patrick Cantlay and hope Aaron Wise defeated Brandt Snedeker to qualify, with the 14-time major champion recovering from going two down to beat Cantlay 4&2 to top Group 13.

McIlroy, who won the Players Championship at Sawgrass on his last start, told Sky Sports: "I feel good".

But after taking down Woods on Thursday, Snedeker lost two early holes with bogeys and made just two birdies in his round and was 3 down through 10 before the match ended on the 14th.

Tiger Woods admitted that he did not play his best golf despite being among the winners in the opening round of the World Golf Championships-Dell Matchplay on Wednesday. Na had a 4-foot birdie putt to cut into the deficit even more but missed it. Spieth won 3 and 2. Meanwhile, Kisner went on to lose to Watson in the final match. Wise never trailed, was 2 up at the turn and won four of the next five holes to close out Snedeker.

Woods and McIlroy will face off in the round-of-16 on Saturday if they win their respective groups. Otherwise, Snedeker and Cantlay will return to the first tee for a sudden-death playoff.

It was only worth a half-point from a match in which he never led, and it's just one out of three matches in group play.

"Rose, who was tournament host of the British Masters won by Pepperell a year ago, told Sky Sports: ".I had a great match with Eddie.

"I wasn't going to roll over like previous year", he said. He not only made contact, the ball bounced out to about 4 feet and he made the par putt.

Others with a flawless record after two matches include British Open champion Francesco Molinari, major winners Henrik Stenson and Jim Furyk, and "Mr 62" Branden Grace, the only player to break 63 in a major.

Perhaps the biggest upset of the day belonged to Denmark's Lucas Bjerregaard, who whipped fifth-ranked Justin Thomas 3 and 2.

"I thought he was wasting his time over there". Only two players in the four previous years of group play have advanced with just one win - Patton Kizzire and Byeong Hun An in 2016 each won a match and tied two others.

Former champion Jason Day has been eliminated from Match Play after his second-round loss to Henrik Stenson.

"The guys who have played this event have said that this is one of the more exciting events with the people and then the scenarios you have on the back nine", Woods said. He was 6 down with six holes to play before winning the next three holes.

Tiger Woods has some work to do at the WGC Match Play.

Stenson prefers single elimination to group play, one reason he has skipped the Match Play the last three years.
