A New Sierra Nevada Winter Storm Watch

A winter storm warning goes into effect at 1 p.m. Sunday and will last through 7 a.m. Monday as moderate snow, but heavy at times, is expected. Several municipalities declared snow emergencies Sunday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Sierra Nevada above 6,000 feet, from late Monday night through Thursday morning.

Heavier snow and higher accumulations are expected in New York City and western areas of the region. But forecasters warn that the snow could linger in Greater Boston until 8 a.m., likely causing problems for Monday morning commuters.

News 12 meteorologists were expecting much of western CT to see about 5-9 inches of snowfall, with isolated higher amounts possible in spots. High winds are also expected.

A winter storm is making its way across much of the USA, bringing rain, snow and bitter cold to some areas. "A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible". Expect colder temperatures for the rest of the week ahead.

The coming week will then seem more like January than March, with overnight low temperatures around ten degrees Monday through Wednesday. Thursday evening will be clear and with a low around 13.
