The winners and losers of the 2019 Oscars

"The Favourite" actress Olivia Colman delighted the audience with a tearful and humorous acceptance speech as she took home the Oscar for the Best Actress in a Leading Role on Sunday. "This is hilarious", she said. As she came off the stage, Cooper had his arm around Gaga as she asked, "Did I nail it?"

Colman's win for her performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite attracted acclaim unusual for a comedy film, and several on social media felt it was high time the genre got the respect it deserved.

Colman, who played Queen Anne, snatched a surprise win over front-runner Glenn Close, who dominated trophies throughout the award season and was favored by many to win for "The Wife".

Coleman dedicated the award to, "any little girl who's practicing her speech on the telly.you never know".

She went on to thank her co-stars, family, punctuating her speech with the occasional hysterical sputter of amazement.

Fellow Oscar victor Julia Roberts took to Instagram to share her appreciation for Colman, writing: "I (love) Olivia".

The film about a black jazz musician and a white driver travelling through the segregated United States deep south also won the best supporting actor Oscar for Mahershala Ali, as well as best original screenplay. Best actor Rami Malek also pointed out his mom as he accepted his award for "Bohemian Rhapsody", saying, "I love you, lady".

The Favourite has proved to be a bit of an.erm.favourite with the Academy Award judging panel, with a total of 10 nominations, including Best Picture. "If by the way, I forget anybody I'll find you later and give you a massive snog, and feel bad about forgetting you up here". "I think you're unbelievable".

Stone, sitting near Colman in the Dolby Theatre, also broke into tears as the award was announced, could be seen repeating "oh my God" over and over again.

Olivia Colman had already bagged a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for her portrayal of the last Stuart monarch. Colman is brilliant as a woman who spends most of her time in a wheelchair and is often the butt of ridicule.
