Manny Machado: Decision Coming Within a Week According to Reports

Ultimately, it is Middleton who must decide, at least on the Phillies' end, between Machado and Harper.

A couple weeks after trading for Machado's brother-in-law, they reached a one-year, $4 million agreement with 33-year-old outfielder Jon Jay, according to USA Today, on Monday night.

According to a source, there is momentum building toward Harper's return to Washington, while the Phillies - who are set to meet with Harper this week in Las Vegas - appear to be turning up their pursuit of Machado.

Levine adds a few other interesting nuggets, leading with this: "The prevailing feeling across the Major League Baseball landscape is that momentum is building for the White Sox in the Manny Machado sweepstakes".

Bruce Levine of the Score 670, a Chicago sports radio station, reported that Machado will make his free agency decision in the next week.

While things might be looking good for the White Sox at the moment, the Phillies could be the difference-maker here if only because they seem to be the only team that could significantly outbid the White Sox. He also noted that Machado is receiving offers between $25 and $28 million annually.

We might soon find out, if the next seven days truly do provide Machado's decision.

Unfortunately for Chicago, they're not the only team in a position to offer Machado a big contract, and even worse for Chi-Town is that the Sox aren't expected to be very competitive for another year or two.
