Mike Mayock Hired By Oakland Raiders As GM

The Oakland Raiders have found their new general manager after unveiling NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock on Monday. There were some things I needed some help with.

Mayock, whose broadcasting career dates back to 1993, is a good draft analyst and offers sharp takes on the game when in the booth for NFL Network or NBC on Notre Dame games. "Nobody ever knew for a couple of years that he and I had talked about a potential job with the Oakland Raiders that long ago".

The team originally had one first-round draft pick.

The 60-year-old Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native will be serving in his first front office role with the Raiders in 2019.

With their season officially over after going 4-12 in Jon Gruden's first year back on the sidelines, the Oakland Raiders wasted little time in filling their GM vacancy left after the firing of Reggie McKenzie. "So Mike Mayock might think he can come in there and have final say and he'll have creative input".

"I don't have all the answers", he said. The pairing didn't work as Gruden frequently criticized McKenzie's recent drafts and got rid of many of those players. He played in nine games for the New York Giants and later for the CFL's Toronto Argonauts before joining the NFL Network as a broadcaster. The Raiders moved fast.

Oakland's offense averaged on 18.1 points a game, while the defense was last in the National Football League in scoring defense, allowing 29.2 points a game.

A decision is expected before the Super Bowl. Head coach/football czar Jon Gruden, owner Mark Davis and staff have spoken to several candidates about the position.
