Sears closing 80 more stores in March, includes Mall of America location

The Delmar Plaza store in Orange Grove was on a list of 80 stores Sears Holdings released Friday morning, saying those retailers will close in late March.

Sears is not indicating how many employees are affected by the closure. The include two Sears stores in Novi and Muskegon, but no Kmart stores in MI.

If Lampert does submit a bid, Sears's advisers have until January 4 to decide if he's a "qualified bidder".

Sears filed for bankruptcy on Oct 15, holding just of 700 stores at the time.

Friday's announcement is on top of the previously planned closures, which included the Sears stores in Bloomington and on Rice Street in St. Paul.

So far a hedge fund controlled by Eddie Lampert, Sears' former CEO and now largest creditor, is the only entity to publicly disclose a plan to bid.

The company plans to shutter 80 stores beginning in late March and liquidation sales could begin in two weeks, the company said. But the department store industry has struggled over the past half-decade, as the mall has become less convenient and apparel more casual.

Sears did not immediately respond to Fortune's request for comment. However, sources told CNBC that as of Thursday afternoon Lampert had not submitted his bid or rounded up financing.

Additionally, the Kmart store located at 201 Ninth St S E in Rochester has also been identified as a store to close in 2019. Lampert and his hedge fund, ESL Investments Inc., also didn't respond to messages.

Sears filed for bankruptcy in October.

As of the bankruptcy filing, the company employed about 68,000 people.
