Maurizio Sarri makes HUGE Premier League title claim after Man City win

Guardiola warned that City's dreams of winning the Uefa Champions League for the first time this season could end in similar fashion if they don't learn to kill games against the toughest opposition when they are on top.

No arrests were made after Saturday's league game but the Metropolitan Police said they would review footage to determine whether any racist abuse took place.

N'Golo Kante and David Luiz gave the Blues a win which just about keeps them in the title race, but the game was nearly as much about Chelsea's organization in midfield and defense which stopped Manchester City playing their usual fluid attacking game. They started at Stamford Bridge without Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero, and finished it without David Silva, yet still managed 69 per cent possession and fashioned 13 corners to Chelsea's one.

City and Chelsea will play midweek in European competition before returning to Premier League play next weekend. "All for kicking a ball", tweeted former England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, who was working on the game as a pundit for BT Sport. "I think it can give us a lot of confidence". "We are not here to be invincible, we are here to be champions", said Guardiola.

Willian wasted another good chance on the counter-attack as having been behind only once before in the Premier League this season, City were rattled and rarely threatened to get back in the game in the second period.

"It's never easy to play against City", Luiz added. "It is emotional for me to see these players do what they do every three days".

So for Sarri's side to have success in the future, he needs to make Kante feel comfortable in the midfield. "It can help the team".

The win for the Blues means they are now just eight points off new leaders Liverpool and Sarri may well decide to use the same tactics for his sides next clash with one of the "big six" against Arsenal in January.

Guardiola, however, still liked what he saw, believing Chelsea simply took their chances at key moments.

"I like because I play previous year under Conte, so I know what to do", he said after the match.

It has meant that Guardiola has had to continue to rely heavily on Fernandinho in the midfield anchor role, with the Brazil global the only outfield player to have started all 15 of City's league games to date.

"He did not come to compete with Fernandinho to be part of our team - but what Fernandinho has done here, not just this season but all the years we have been together, is incredible", he said. To be where we are - we should be proud.

Burnley also moved out of the drop zone courtesy of a first win in nine games as James Tarkowski scored the only goal to beat Brighton 1-0.
