Macron tells Saudi prince worldwide experts needed in Khashoggi probes

British Prime Minister Theresa May, speaking to Sky News before the summit, said she would press the crown prince both on Yemen and Khashoggi at the G20.

Bin Salman's playful nature with Macron appeared to later rub off on Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was captured in another clip grinning ear-to-ear while giving the Saudi leader a hearty high-five.

Mr. Trump has given Salman, known by his initials as MBS, the benefit of the doubt over the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, arguing the U.S.

Trump was criticized broadly for his response to the Washington Post journalist's death, with the president citing an arms deal as reason to maintain good relations with Saudi Arabia despite the incident.

The murder of Khashoggi has caused widespread backlash against the Saudi regime, which had recently enjoyed an exceptionally friendly relationship with countries like the USA and France. "There is no direct reporting connecting the crown prince to the order to murder Jamal Khashoggi", Pompeo told reporters.

The G20 communique said that the G20 nations reaffirm their commitment to further strengthening the global financial safety net with a strong, quota-based, and adequately resourced International Monetary Fund at its centre.

Stability in Saudi Arabia is the cornerstone of prosperity and progress in the Gulf, and China firmly supports Riyadh in its drive for economic diversification and social reform, President Xi Jinping told Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

It is thought the prince's other notable meeting in Argentina will be with Russia's President Putin.

The US president cancelled a formal sit-down with Mr Putin at the summit in Argentina over Moscow's seizure of Ukrainian vessels.

World leaders are assembling in Argentina for a G20 summit - a meeting of the planet's 20 leading economies.

"They exchanged pleasantries at the leaders' session as he did with almost every leader in attendance", a senior White House official said.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Finance Mohammed Al-Jadaan participated in a G20 working dinner for world finance ministers on the sidelines of the summit on Thursday. He also pushed the issue of imprisoned human rights workers and the "humanitarian catastrophe" from violence in Yemen.
