Gunman Killed During Black Friday Sales

A fight between two teenagers, including an 18-year-old, led to an exchange of gunfire at Riverchase Galleria in Hoover, a suburb of Birmingham, police said.

Police said the shooting frenzy began after two men got into a physical confrontation outside a Foot Action shoe store. However, in Alabama last night, an argument in a mall escalated into much more than a cute Black Friday blunder.

Several shoppers were seen with their guns drawn.

Capt. Greg Rector said in a news conference a 12-year-old girl struck by gunfire was hospitalized. The 21-year-old opened fire, and the 18-year-old was shot. The gunman was shot by a responding police officer while fleeing the scene. One of the officers shot him, and the suspected shooter was later pronounced dead on the scene.

Both of the injured were taken to hospitals. They ask shoppers to avoid the mall area. She was reportedly in stable condition.

Police tell that the suspect is dead following an officer-involved shooting.

Brookfield Properties, which owns the shopping center, said it was devastated by the shooting.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case per the request of the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.

"We want it to paint a very clear picture of what happened tonight", Rector said. We are working closely with the Hoover Police Department.

"Hopefully by tomorrow (Friday), everything is back to normal and people that want to come out and shop, we know this is a safe environment", Derzis said.

Thursday wasn't the first time the Galleria has dealt with chaotic disturbances during busy shopping hours.
