Coldest Thanksgiving in decades on the way for Northeast, Midwest

According to the National Weather Service, only three Thanksgivings have had high temperatures below 30 degrees. This year, with a current high of 26 degrees projected for Thursday, the city is potentially on track to beat that 117-year-old record.

Environment Canada issued a weather advisory for Kitchener-Cambridge-Region of Waterloo on November 21 at around 11 a.m.

There are no major storms to speak of, but there are a few trouble spots: rain along the West Coast, a few showers along the Gulf Coast and the lake effect snow in the Northeast.

Temperatures on Thanksgiving will be even colder inland, with 14 degrees forecast as the high in Fryeburg, Lewiston, Augusta and Waterville. 6-14 inches on Saturday.

"Snow totals will range from the rain in Reno to a mix in the hills, to a couple inches around Tahoe, about 4-8" at 7000' and around a foot above 8000'.

This colder, drier air mass is a very stable one, though. Accuweather meteorologists agreed it will feel "more like Christmas Day than Thanksgiving" in most of the northeast.

Skies will clear Thursday morning and attractive weather will take over Thanksgiving Day. And the way it appears, both Boston and Worcester will have the coldest Thanksgiving in recorded history, using this method. New York City will see low temperatures in the 20s Thanksgiving morning. Friday morning lows will be even colder.

Some areas may experience temperatures 25 degrees below.

Travel weather will be fairly nice across most of the country on Wednesday.

Although it will be cold, Thanksgiving Day is looking like a good day for traveling.

Friday: Mostly sunny but still cold.

The Portland jetport did not report any canceled flights Tuesday and had only minor delays, and the Amtrak Downeaster ran on schedule.
