New Jersey Man Breaks His Hip but Wins the Lottery

It comes after one ticket sold in SC matched all six numbers on Tuesday in the United States' other main lottery, the Mega Millions, to win a jackpot of $1.537 billion, just short of a world record.

The hospital shared a picture of the winning ticket on Facebook. But at Jefferson Stratford Hospital, he was invited to join the hospital staff's lottery pool.

They missed out on the $1.5 billion prize, but this group is more than happy with their million.

The Virginia Lottery said in a statement that the chances of matching the first five numbers in Mega Millions are 1 in 12,607,306.

The man's niece thought Uncle Earl was a little loopy when he told her. There, he told staffers about how disappointed he was that he hadn't been able to buy a ticket for the historic jackpot.

Unfortunately, the break means he'll need a hip replacement. "So they said, 'Why don't you go in with us?"

"One of my family members wouldn't leave me alone until I checked my ticket", the mother said. They brought a tray of snacks for the staff to show their appreciation.
