Novak Djokovic upstages opponent Borna Coric by speaking ideal Mandarin in Shanghai

The victor of the last two grand slams, Djokovic has been unstoppable in recent months and crushed Zverev 6-2 6-1 to set up a final meeting with either Roger Federer or Borna Coric.

Federer, competing in his first ATP tournament since a shock last-16 exit at the U.S. Open, struggled for control against Coric's bludgeoning returns as the 13th seeded Croat clinched another early break to reach his first ATP Masters final.

Anderson had a chance to take an early lead against Djokovic, but he overhit a forehand on set point in the 12th game of the match.

"The game is working really well and ending a year as number one will definitely be the biggest achievement of this year".

The 20-times Grand Slam victor has produced a series of lacklustre performances in Shanghai, his first tournament since suffering a shock fourth-round defeat by John Millman at the U.S. Open last month.

Coric, who has only two career titles to his name, has now beaten Federer twice - the previous time was in the final at Halle this year.

Djokovic's win over Zverev and Federer's demise guaranteed Djokovic will move up from No. 3 to No. 2 in the world rankings on Monday, which has him swapping positions with Federer, but still trailing Rafael Nadal.

The 21-year-old Coric said that he had no complaints about losing to "one of the best in the history of tennis".

The soon-to-be-No. 2-ranked Djokovic booked a final appointment after crushing No. 5 Alexander Zverev 6-2, 6-1.

The last four months had been "fantastic" and "tremendous", he said.

Djokovic, who has been particularly dominant on his serve, not dropping one service game in Shanghai, said: "I think you're seeing the new Novak".

"Like I said, I think I will try to take a decision on the clay towards maybe before - well let's say while I'm on vacation after London (ATP Finals November 11-18)". An increasingly exasperated Zverev issued more punishment to his racquet at 3-1 down, earning a code violation and tossing the battered piece into the crowd. Djoković, who was solid on serve the whole match, did not give Ćorić any other openings to break back in the set and get back into the match apart.
