FBI Expert: One-Week FBI Investigation Demanded by Jeff Flake Is Doable

Flake, who had been one of three Republican senators undecided about supporting Kavanaugh amid sexual assault allegations against the nominee, announced Friday morning that he would vote to advance the nomination through the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Senator Flake about an hour ago, right after telling the committee he would advance Kavanaugh's nomination out of committee but that he wanted a reopened Federal Bureau of Investigation background check before the full Senate vote.

CNN reporter Elizabeth Landers says Coons became visibly emotional when her colleague Sunlen Serfaty revealed Flake's decision, prompting the Democrat lawmaker to respond: "Oh f*ck". "Look at me when I'm talking to you!"

Two women who said they were survivors of sexual assault angrily confronted Arizona Sen.

"What you are doing is allowing someone who actually violated a woman to sit in the Supreme Court!" she alleged. "I've issued my statement", Flake said.

Another protester said, "You have power when so many women are powerless". "And I wanted him to - I had gone to his office because I thought he might - he might be willing to take a step that was beyond, you know, kind of the desire of his party".

Christine Blasey Ford, a psychology professor at Palo Alto University, described a drunken Kavanaugh allegedly forcing himself upon her at a gathering when they were teenagers in her testimony before the Senate panel on Thursday. He'd do so, Flake said, if the vote was delayed a week so the FBI could investigate "credible allegations" against the nominee. "You will here more from me".

They emerged after a few hours of back room talks and Flake made a statement calling for the FBI investigation. That suffocating hand that she says was slammed over her teenage mouth was now replaced with those of disbelieving male senators. And as they shouted at him, and begged him to listen to them, he uncomfortably averted his gaze in the elevator.

"I recognized in Dr. Ford's story that she's telling the truth".

Ana Maria Archila, of New York City, co-executive director of the Center for Popular Democracy, pauses while being interviewed in Washington, Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, on Capitol Hill in Washington. "We held open the elevator and I just started telling him why it was important and what had happened to me and why he should not let Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court". "What are you doing to our country?"

"I was sexually assaulted and nobody believed me!" yelled one woman at Flake. "I was demanding a connection, demanding that he look at us, demanding that he give us real answers", she said.

She begged Flake to look her in the eye.

After four and a half minutes, with security apparently on the way, the door of the elevator is finally allowed to close. Flake had said repeatedly he would only make up his mind after hearing both sides' testimony.
