Emery hails Cech as Arsenal keeper frustrates Everton

Everton had created most of the early chances as they looked for their first victory at Arsenal since January 1996, but they were unable to find their way past goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Having survived Everton's opening salvo, the Gunners clinched their fourth successive Premier League victory thanks to second half goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Emery's decision sparked claims Cech was on the way out, but the Arsenal captain had other ideas as he rolled back the years with a vintage display. "The season is very long", Cech added. After the first half Everton started on a good note, but Petr Cech superbly denied Richarlison twice and prevented Theo Walcott from putting the Toffees in front. "But Bernd Leno is a young goalkeeper and he has a big future here".

"They are a step forward than us in this moment", he said. Emery later said he was about to replace Lacazette just before the France striker scored.

"Leno will improve and learn with us".

Currently, Arsenal sit one point off of Champions League spot level on points with bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur and two points ahead of vaunted nemesis Manchester United.

This is not how you win the league. So for us I think it's a bit early. It has been a tough adjustment period for a player who, at 36, is in the twilight of his career but his faultless display against Everton showed he is getting there.

Asked if he was intending to substitute Lacazette, the Arsenal head coach replied: "I don't think it's important, but maybe yes!"

"Against Brentford I am going to prepare the best performance for us, but I'll be giving chances and opportunities to the players who are playing less in the [Premier League]", Emery said.

"It is a disappointing result for us".

One of those who could be in line for a start is Alex Iwobi, who has already got a goal and an assist to his name this season.

Everton can justifiably complain about the second goal, with Aubameyang clearly in an offside position when receiving the ball from Ramsey's flick at the end of a counterattack.
