Bill Cosby sentenced to prison for drugging and sexually assaulting woman

Bill Cosby is about to spend the next three to 10 years in prison for sexual assault, but that doesn't seem to phase the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in the least bit.

The felony counts were connected to a 2004 incident between Cosby and former Temple University employee Andrea Constand, who testified that Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her at his Philadelphia home.

The state sentencing guidelines indicate 22 to 36 months in prison, plus or minus 12 months because of aggravating or mitigating circumstances. The designation means that Cosby, who is legally blind, will be subject to lifetime reporting requirements, meaning that he will have to advise law enforcement authorities of where he is residing. It does not impact the length of the actual sentence.

Cosby was led out of the courtroom today in handcuffs and will spend the first few days of his sentence at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility outside Philadelphia before entering state prison.

Minutes earlier, Constand left court with her arms folded, a smile spreading across her face as other women who have accused Cosby came to hug her.

"As she [Constand] said, Mr. Cosby, you took her handsome, healthy young spirit and crushed it".

Several of Cosby's victims arrived to court Monday for the sentencing, including supermodel Janice Dickinson.

Constand is one of about 60 women who have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct. Cosby did not testify at either of his two trials.

"The suggestion that Mr. Cosby is risky is not supported by anything other than the frenzy", Green said, as demonstrators gathered outside the courthouse.

But O'Neill said prosecutors had met their burden of proof by "clear and convincing" evidence. "The jury thinks otherwise". His lawyers asked for house arrest.

Green rejected the prosecution's contention that Cosby should be considered risky, saying he couldn't recall any instance in which an 81-year-old, blind defendant had been sent to state prison.

Cosby's attorneys have already filed an appeal.

His first trial ended in a hung jury.

Cosby was also fined $34,445.

"The behaviors are beyond their controls, so they are urged to act on it".

Psychologist Kristen Dudley testified on Monday that Cosby showed signs of a mental disorder and was likely to reoffend. On Sept. 25, Bill was officially classified as a "sexually violent predator" before his sentencing. Asked if he wanted to address the court with a statement before sentencing, Cosby declined through his lawyers.

The judge said that even considering Cosby's age and blindness, "he could quite possibly be a danger to the community".

Pennsylvania's Sexual Offenders Assessment Board had already recommended Cosby be designated a "sexually violent predator" during the first day of his sentencing hearing.

Constand writes in a victim-impact statement released Tuesday that Cosby's attack on her was just "the tip of the iceberg" for the suffering that followed. He said he understood, though he did inquire if he would need to personally notify Constand of his whereabouts. "The victims cannot be unraped, all we can do is hold the perpetrators responsible".

The 81-year-old comedian did not make a statement in court.

Montgomery Count District Attorney Kevin Steele rejected the idea that Cosby's age and failing health entitled him to mercy.
