Beto O’Rourke makes apparent Clash reference during Cruz debate

Instead, Cruz said he "loved his wife very much" - a callback to when Trump insulted Cruz's wife, Heidi, on Twitter.

O'Rourke replied: "True to form".

The topic of the debate was domestic policy.

The Dallas Morning News has debunked this claim.

Not surprisingly, Cruz said he supports President Donald Trump's plan to build a wall at the border and O'Rourke does not.

O'Rourke, who is challenging Sen.

Botham Shem Jean was murdered in his apartment by a police officer, and the most exculpatory account for her actions - that she mistakenly believed she was in her own home - is highly damning.

"We can make our schools safer by having officers protect them", Cruz said.

"Thoughts and prayers, Sen".

"That injustice. continues to persist today", O'Rourke said.

With the moderators seeking to move on, Cruz interjected to assert that "more armed police officers in our school is not thoughts and prayers". And at that cotton gin, there are 24 jobs and the manager of that gin says it does not matter the wages that I pay or the number of hours that we set ... no one born in Roscoe ... or Texas or this country who is willing to work.

I also went to the cotton gin in Roscoe.

O'Rourke first challenged Cruz to six debates in May, and while Cruz maintained he was open to debating his opponent, he did not formally respond until July.

"Talking about criminal justice reform, let's talk about where this problem started", he said at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.

"I did not try to leave the scene of the accident, though driving drunk, which I did, is a bad mistake for which there is no excuse or justification or defense, and I will not try to provide one", O'Rourke said.

Cruz then attacked O'Rourke on wanting to fire Guyger and being anti-police.

O'Rourke also called Texas the "epicenter" of the issue.

O'Rourke, a charismatic congressman from El Paso, has benefited from an avalanche of media attention and a gusher of small donations, raising millions of dollars more than Cruz.

"The high-velocity high-impact round from an AR-15 will blow a hole the size of an orange out your back", O'Rourke said. Cruz, who mentioned the September 14 death of on-duty Fort Worth police officer Garrett Hull earlier, said everyone's right should be protected regardless of race or ethnicity. Texas Rangers and the Dallas County district attorney quickly charged Guyger with manslaughter. O'Rourke's supporters, many sporting "Beto for Senate" shirts, were quite vocal - especially when the debate ended, when a large portion stood and cheered.

Such work would prove hard, Mr. Cruz said, given Mr. O'Rourke "has never talked to the president and wants to vote for impeachment".
