North and South Korea plan to bid for 2032 Summer Olympics

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un agreed to permanently dismantle his main nuclear complex at Nyongbyon if the United States takes corresponding measures, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Wednesday after the two leaders held summit talks in Pyongyang.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in held a joint news conference after the signing ceremony, and after the two Korea's defence chiefs adopted a separate military pact.

PYONGYANG, Korea, Democratic People's Republic Of - The leaders of North and South Korea announced a wide range of agreements Wednesday which they said were a major step toward peace on the Korean Peninsula. Washington is demanding concrete action towards denuclearization before agreeing to key goals of Pyongyang - declaring an official end to the 1950-53 Korean War and easing tough global sanctions.

North Korea said it would permanently abolish its key missile facilities in the presence of foreign experts, the latest gesture by leader Kim Jong Un to revive faltering talks with Washington over his country's nuclear program.

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un will also make a visit to the South Korean capital Seoul this year.

Pyongyang also agreed to destroy the Yongbyon nuclear site, which is believed to be used for the production of fissile material for nuclear weapons, if the United States takes "corresponding measures".

North Korea has frozen missile and nuclear tests, blown up entrances to its underground nuclear test site and started the dismantling of a missile engine test facility.

British newspaper The Guardian, reported that North Korea had agreed to shut down its missile test sites.

A commentary run by the ruling party newspaper on Tuesday, the day Moon arrived, took care of that - blaming Washington's "stubborn" and "gangster-like" demands for the North to unilaterally give up its nuclear weapons as the sole cause of the breakdown in U.S. "In the meantime there will be no Rocket or Nuclear testing", Trump wrote on Twitter.

Kim Yo Jong roamed around Tuesday's events in a black two-piece suit, stealing the show on the live broadcast screen in Seoul's press center for inter-Korean summit.

Performers hold up cards to form patterns during the "Glorious Country" mass games held in conjunction with the 70th anniversary of North Korea's founding day in Pyongyang on September 9. If he does, it would be a milestone - the first time a North Korean leader would have visited South Korea.

Kim, however, is not the first North Korean leader to agree to visit Seoul. Then, Trump is expected to decide whether he will meet with Kim again. The measures include the establishment of a buffer zone near the front line, the suspension of artillery drills and field maneuvers there and an agreement to each pull back 11 border guard posts by year's end.

"I'd like to have frank dialogue with Chairman Kim on how to find a point of contact between US demands for denuclearisation and North Korea's demands for ending hostile relations and security guarantees", Moon told reporters before departing for the region.

Moon expressed hope that talks would resume between North Korea and the US. South Korea is a deeply divided place politically, with a chasm between conservatives who hate the North and liberals who want to reach out.

Before Yongbyon is destroyed, the USA must first agree to a formal end to the Korean War, something it has refused to do until there is proof of denuclearization.
