GRASSLEY SPEAKS: Senate Judiciary Chairman Releases Kavanaugh Statement

A woman who had anonymously accused US Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct in the early 1980s went public on Sunday, prompting Republicans to plan further discussions about his nomination before a committee vote this week. Ford is now a professor at Palo Alto University in California. After her story began to leak, she changed her mind and chose to go public.

"Now I feel like my civic responsibility is outweighing my anguish and terror about retaliation", Ford told the Post.

'She clearly considers this an attempted rape, ' Katz said of Ford's view on the incident.

Kavanaugh, nominated by President Donald Trump to succeed retiring justice Anthony Kennedy, has said the allegation is "completely false" and that he's is willing to discuss it with the Judiciary Committee "in any way the committee deems appropriate". Dianne Feinstein describing her alleged ordeal with Kavanaugh when they were in high school.

Trump has not said anything publicly about Kavanaugh's nomination since Ford's allegations surfaced.

Asked for a response to Ford's detailed allegations, White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah offered CNN the same denial Kavanaugh issued previously.

"This has not changed", said White House spokesman Kerri Kupec. They locked the door and played loud music precluding any successful attempt to yell for help. She told the Post that she was able to escape after a friend of Kavanaugh's who was in the room jumped on top of them and everyone tumbled.

Mr Kavanaugh attended a private school for boys in Maryland while Dr Ford attended a nearby school.

"She believes that if it were not for the severe intoxication of Brett Kavanaugh, she would have been raped", Katz told NBC's "Today". I'd like to see a complete process. At the end of the day, they had also sent a letter to White House Counsel Don McGahn to ask the Federal Bureau of Investigation to re-open Kavanaugh's background check. The notes say four boys were involved, a discrepancy Ford says was an error on the therapist's part.

Ford said Kavanaugh and a friend - both "stumbling drunk" - corralled her in a bedroom when she was around 15 and Kavanaugh was around 17. "In the meantime, I hope Ms. Blasey Ford receives the respect and dignity to which she is entitled". "These are all the ills that I was trying to avoid".

A spokesperson for the Koch-backed Americans for Prosperity, which has already spent heavily on pro-Kavanaugh ads, said in a statement Monday that "any allegation of this type should be taken seriously, however, we are not going to speculate on media reports". "I never saw Brett act that way".

Leahy dismissed Republican complaints that the information was coming to light near the end of the confirmation process, arguing that they had rushed the process and failed to turn over records of Kavanaugh's government service.

Leahy, the most senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, announced last Thursday in the Washington Post that he would vote against Kavanaugh's confirmation.

"I stand with Christine Blasey Ford, and I commend her for her bravery and seriousness with which she takes her duty as a citizen", said Katie Hill, a Democratic candidate for Congress in a district north of Los Angeles. "It is the Republican majority that is on trial", said Geoff Garin, a Democratic pollster who has been working on Senate races.

"Given the nature of these allegations, and the number of outstanding questions, I believe the Judiciary Committee should hold off on Thursday's scheduled vote", Donnelly said. Frankly, that's what I would have expected them to say. Lindsey Graham allowed for the possibility that the committee could receive testimony from Ford.

Democrats had demanded a delay in the committee's vote in order to let the FBI investigate.
