Brett Kavanaugh has Democrats in 'nuclear option' regret

Still, Democrats, facing the all-but-certain confirmation of the federal appellate judge, showed a willingness to fight yesterday as they battled the White House over the weekend over its decision to withhold roughly 100,000 pages of documents from Kavanaugh's tenure in President George W. Bush's White House under a claim of executive privilege.

Trump nominated Kavanaugh in June to succeed Justice Anthony Kennedy, who was the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States until he retired this year.

Where does Kavanaugh stand on some key issues? President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, officiates at the swearing-in of Judge Britt Grant to take a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta at the U.S. District Courthouse in Washington.

Republicans have dismissed Democrats' concerns over lack of access to portions of the record on Kavanaugh's background, arguing their criticism is politically motivated.

Later, he said, after seeing the pressures inside the Bush White House, he wrote in a 2009 article for the Minnesota Law Review that any civil and criminal investigations of a president should be deferred until they're out of office because they're "time-consuming and distracting".

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer called it "a Friday night document massacre".

The Trump Administration didn't agree with the transparency request and "has directed that we not provide these documents" the attorney noted.

According to the letter, most of those documents withheld are about "deliberations and candid advice concerning the selection and nomination of judicial candidates, the confidentiality of which is critical to any president's ability to carry out this core executive function". Some presidential records were withheld because they are "protected by constitutional privilege", according to Burck.

"President Trump's decision to step in at the last moment and hide 100k pages of Judge Kavanaugh's records from the American public is not only unprecedented in the history of SCOTUS noms, it has all the makings of a cover up", Schumer wrote.

On Sunday, Meet The Press host Chuck Todd mentioned to Sen. They've exerted their executive power - 148,000 documents that I've seen, that you can not see, because they won't allow us to make them public.

"The Democrats have more than enough information to understand that this is a highly qualified jurist that should be the next Supreme Court justice", said Republican Sen.

Klobuchar said she thought it would be "much more powerful" if Democrats asked tough questions.

He said Senate Republicans and Trump "are colluding to keep".
