Jose Mourinho: Man Utd boss 'not confident' of deadline day signing

United manager Jose Mourinho, entering his third season at Old Trafford, has looked like a Bassett Hound for most of the summer, predicting a "difficult season" for a team which finished second in May.

380 games per season will be screened exclusively live on beIN, in addition to magazine shows and pre- and post-match coverage. Ivan Perisic, the Croatia worldwide, also featured prominently on Mourinho's wish list but it now seems that United's summer transfer business will be restricted to the arrivals of Fred, the injured Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant, signed from Stoke City as a third-choice goalkeeper.

The Reds were one of the most exciting teams to watch in world football last season, thrilling fans with their own unique brand of expansive, high-octane football.

"I am still expecting them to be very strong this season, and I actually think that, along with Liverpool, they will be a lot closer to Manchester City this time".

Press Association Sport understands United have been keen to sign a centre-back, but Leicester's reluctance to sell Harry Maguire looks to have scuppered any move for the England star.

FIFA are formulating plans for a consistent transfer deadline across world football, which would aid Premier League sides after their setback this year.

"They return on Monday, trained Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and today so you can imagine that they are not really fit and ready but we have needs", Mourinho said.

Marcus Rashford, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku made slightly early returns so could be involved on Friday, perhaps helping to boost the mood of a manager who has looked downbeat for much of the summer.

"My view is that first of all is hard for me to believe we finished second", he added.

"So it's hard for me to understand or to feel or to believe that we finished second, which I keep saying that I - and sometimes it's also hard to believe - that I won eight championships and three Premier Leagues". Martial in the last 20 minutes could have given us the second goal but I couldn't make that change.

"Since nine years, every season - except the first when I arrived at Barcelona".
