Manchester United tour turns into a farce ahead of Real Madrid test

Jose Mourinho has already bemoaned the lack of first-team players he has at his disposal during United's pre-season tour of the United States, either through injury or participation at the World Cup.

"From his sullen demeanour at media conferences during Manchester United's pre-season U.S. tour, it's obvious he is unhappy the club has not yet delivered the players he feels he needs to challenge neighbours Manchester City for the title", Fowler wrote in the Mirror.

The 22-year-old's last loan move was with Portuguese side Belenenses during the first half of Mourinho's opening season as Old Trafford, during which he made ten appearances and impressed with a handful of solid performances between the sticks.

Mourinho joined Manchester United three seasons ago after being sacked by Chelsea.

Already deprived of more than half of his first-choice starting XI because of World Cup commitments, injuries have now decimated his squad and Mourinho is anxious as he moves towards the start of the serious business of a new domestic campaign.

"OK, Jose is crying because so far he can't get what he wants".

"I don't think he's a leader", Mourinho said, when revealing Bailly's ankle is badly swollen. Alexis is the only attacking player that we have.

He was more critical of French striker Anthony Martial, who he said should have returned to the USA tour after going home to be with his girlfriend when she gave birth to a baby boy in Paris.

Darmian was quizzed on whether Serie A was his likeliest destination should he leave before the transfer window closes on August 9.

But asked again in Miami ahead of the game against Real Madrid on Tuesday, Mourinho revealed he is feeling more positive about landing one new player before the start of the new season.

Thus far he has bought three players including Brazilian global Fred, but Mourinho is keen to have two new faces in the squad come the opening match with Leicester on Friday week.

The players we have bought - one is a goalkeeper cover, one is a 19-year-old kid, so in fact we have one new player, which is Fred.

It could also mean that some of United's business goes beyond the close of the Premier League window next week, if Madrid move late.
