Wimbledon 2018: Unstoppable Roger Federer wins set in 16 minutes

Roger Federer has been pushed off Wimbledon's Centre Court for the first time in three years.

The eighth-seeded Anderson hit 20 aces on his way to setting up a last-eight meeting with Federer.

Federer will be playing in his 53rd Grand Slam last-eight.

Federer boasts a 4-0 career record against 2017 US Open runner-up Anderson and 9-4 over Monfils.

Roger Federer has been placed as the firm favourite to lift a record ninth title, while many are hankering after a repeat of the 2008 final against Rafael Nadal.

Maybe then, upon a 13th Grand Slam triumph, which would also be his finest, we will start giving him the credit he is due.

"Of course this is an important result for me", Nadal said after the match.

Juan Martin del Potro powered through to only his second Wimbledon quarter-final after beating Gilles Simon.

Del Potro was forced to finish his last-16 match against Gilles Simon on Tuesday because of fading light on Monday, but said afterwards he felt he would be in a "good condition".

But that third-round fixture was a natural, with a three-time champion playing the British No 1. I served well when I needed to.

World No. 130 Gulbis came through qualifying and shocked 4th seeded German Alexander Zverev in the 3rd round.

"I guess there are other factors that play in".

Del Potro went on to the semi-finals at Wimbledon five years ago and it took Novak Djokovic to halt him in a five-set epic played out over four and a half hours.

So, with two quarter-finals being played on Centre Court and two on Court One, something has got to give.

Elsewhere, Milos Raonic beat Mackenzie McDonald in four sets to reach the quarter-finals for the third year in a row. So, too, is 19-year-old Denis Shapovalov of Canada.

The Wimbledon defending champion overhit a backhand during his rather one-sided win in the fourth round over Adrian Mannarino.

Asked if it was a flawless display, Serena admitted she is never satisfied.

"It's always like a big war for me", said Nishikori on facing Djokovic.

"This is only my fourth tournament back", Williams said.

Garbine Muguruza, Maria Sharapova, Simona Halep, Petra Kvitova, Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki and Sloane Stephens have all been eliminated already.

The second seed defeated Jiri Vesely 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 on Centre Court.

Rafael Nadal is in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the first time since 2011.

Bertens, who was contemplating retirement previous year after losing her enthusiasm for the sport, is the first Dutch woman to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals since Michaella Krajicek in 2007.

Jelena Ostapenko became the first Latvian woman to reach a Wimbledon semifinal with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Dominika Cibulkova.

So it's no wonder that Tsisipas, now 19 and one of the game's emerging stars, made a point of rewatching Federer's 2001 match against Sampras last week, the night before making his debut in Wimbledon's main draw.

"I will try to hold my service games most of the time".

"It was ridiculous what happened there".

"I'm more concerned the World Cup final will have issues because the Wimbledon final is going on", said the eight-time champion after seeing off France's Adrian Mannarino in straight sets on Monday. "After she was complaining, they were talking in Chinese, whatever language". "I can only take positives out of this Grand Slam".

"Like past year, I received the information that they can't reschedule my match on the other court because of the tickets that are presold. I probably won't have another 6-0 set this week, so I'll enjoy this one".
