'Families Belong Together' Marches Protest Trump Immigration Policies Nationwide

"We are not protestors, we are protectors!" read a tweet from the Women's March.

"I am protesting in DC today because I can not turn a blind eye to the clear human rights abuses brought forth by this administration", Banks told CNN.

"I have watched ICE liberate towns from the grasp of [criminal gangs]", Trump said on Twitter. "This is human rights and it's about families". I mean, it's heartbreaking, and it's not the values that our country stands for.

Benjamin Crook, 22, has plans to attend seminary school at Duke University. Where are the marches, the protests, the outpouring of concern for Americans who die from drugs brought into this country by those here unlawfully?

"It's abhorrent (and) evil", Crook said.

"As a nation and a people we can do better", Lewis said. Families Belong Together on Saturday, June 30, has been organized as a nationwide day of action both to protest the immigration policies and call for reunification.

There, people held American and Texas flags and signs depicting a migrant father, mother and child as the Holy Family with haloed heads traveling through the desert.

Protesters chant slogans outside a Federal court during a demonstration calling for the abolishment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, and an end to mass incarceration, June 29, 2018, in NY. Drivers honked their horns in support. They said they want people to see these young faces because they are the same age of children in detention centers across the U.S.

"We're children of immigrants", she said.

One of the biggest protests is expected to take place in Washington D.C'.s Lafayette Square, directly across the street from the White House, with turnout expected to top 50,000 people.

A number of celebrities have also expressed their support, including actresses Julianne Moore, America Ferrara and Natalie Portman, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the hit musical Hamilton.

It is part of a larger movement "to tell Donald Trump and his administration to stop separating kids from their parents", according to the national Families Belong Together website. "Seeing everyone together for this cause, it's emotional". Her jacket said, "I really don't care, do U?" and it became a rallying cry for protesters Saturday. Protesters in Houston chanted, "No baby jails", outside City Hall.

Groups that pulled off massive women's marches the past two years and other left-leaning rallies are throwing their weight behind migrant families Saturday.

"To the great and fearless men and women of ICE, do not worry or lose your spirit", Trump tweeted.

The order stopped children being taken from parents who face criminal prosecution as part of the president's policy of "zero tolerance" towards illegal crossings of the U.S. border from Mexico.

"I'm not a radical, and I'm not an activist", said Kate Sharaf, a Portland co-organiser. "There is just nothing worse to me".

Immigrant advocacy groups say they're thrilled - and surprised - to see the issue gaining traction among those not tied to immigration.

"I am afraid that they will take my mom away while she is at work, out driving or at home", she continued.
