Indian vs Kenya : Fans fill stadium after emotional plea by captain

With hours to go before India face Kenya in their second match of the Intercontinental Cup, the stadium was sold out. That people who saw India's last win against Kenya want to come back again.

He was also full of praise for his side's performance, with the win ensuring that the Indian football team have qualified for the final of the tournament.

The Blue Tigers, who are ranked 97th in the world, beat Chinese Taipei 5-0 in Mumbai on Friday in the opening match of the Intercontinental Cup, a four-team tournament that also features New Zealand and Kenya.

"I don't feel we should we begging people to watch their own National Team".

Chhetri had posted an emotional video on Twitter, pleading with fans to "abuse us, criticise us but please come to watch the Indian national team play".

"To all of you who are fans of big European clubs and support European clubs with so much passion and sometimes you guys think that the level is not the same, so why do you waste your time?", said Chhetri. His father, an Army man, played for the Indian Army's Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers, headquartered in Secunderabad, where the Indian football team captain was born.

However it's important to put things in perspective; the stadium hosting the Intercontinental Cup only houses about 9000 spectators and a number of tickets have to be handed out on a complimentary basis with commitment to broadcasters, AIFF, sponsors etc. "I could not find ticket for Sunil Chhetri's 100th game. I am so sad I can't be part of the stadium experience for the final", he says.

Mumbai: Skipper Sunil Chhetri scored a brace on his 100th worldwide game as Jeje Lalpekhlua also got on the scoresheet to help India beat Kenya 3-0 and put on foot in the final of the Intercontinental Cup on a rain-soaked Monday night at the Mumbai Football Arena.

Tendulkar added "C'mon India". Firstly, skipper Sunil Chhetri marked his 100th national team appearance with a wonderful brace.

The captain is also the third on the list of highest active goal scorers with 59 goals to his name, surpassed only by Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina's Lionel Messi. The 31-year-old is set to become the only second footballer from the country after former captain Bhaichung Bhutia to achieve the feat.

Taking to Twitter, the skipper said.

"We are definitely going to fight and lose some games but if this is what we are going to get then we are going to give our lives on the pitch".
