Israel source: Russian Federation to back Israel against Iran in Syria

Sources said the two national security advisers will make changes to the agreement that reflect the "new reality" of the USA no longer being party to the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman will meet Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in Moscow on Thursday.

Jordan also made it clear that military maneuvers ‎involving Iranian-backed forces could trigger a ‎military confrontation between Iran and Israel.

"Our position on Syria is clear", Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his parliamentary faction in broadcast remarks.

Jordan also weighed in saying it has discussed developments in southern Syria with Washington and Moscow and that all three parties agreed on the need to preserve a "de-escalation" zone that was brokered previous year.

The US warned it would take "firm and appropriate measures" in response to any violations of that ceasefire.

In addition to violence inside Syria, Daraa's location on the border of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights makes any operation there highly sensitive.

The report indicated that Iran used Jordan as a go-between to relay a message to Israel, saying it would not operate in southeastern Syria near the border with Jordan.‎.

Both Russia and Iran have played pivotal roles in helping reverse Assad's fortunes, and Faisal Mekdad, Syria's deputy foreign minister, last week reassured Tehran that a pullout was not up for discussion.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has reported Syrian army movements into the south and state media have reported leaflet drops on rebel-held areas there urging insurgents to accept government rule, two signs a military offensive may be coming.

Over the weekend, Iran and Israel also reportedly engaged in indirect negotiations over fighting in Daraa, according to a report on Saudi-owned news site Elaph.

Those strikes followed a barrage of some 32 rockets that were fired by Iranian forces in Syria towards Israel's part of the Golan Heights.
