YouTube launching a new music streaming service on May 22

YouTube music is more focused towards offering music, videos and demands a YouTube Red subscription.

YouTube is launching its new music streaming service, YouTube Music, on May 22. You'll have access to ad-free listening and tons of playlists and remixes, plus music videos, which is arguably what YouTube is best for. Its latest reshuffle puts YouTube Music in direct competition with Apple (with 50 million subscribers) and Spotify (with 75 million paying subscribers, 170 million users total).

"YouTube was made for video, not just music", said YouTube in its announcement. Google plans on expanding the availability of its new music streaming service in the coming weeks to major European countries.

If you're already a YouTube Red subscriber, you'll still enjoy your current price. The YouTube Music service will eventually replace Google Play Music. YouTube Premium includes the YouTube Music Service, and the price for new members will be $11.99. There will also be YouTube Music Premium which at $9.99 a month will offer users an ad-free experience. However, existing YouTube Red customers will continue to get access for US$9.99 per month.

Long awaited YouTube Music is finally coming

Like other music streaming platforms, YouTube Music is going to be released as a standalone mobile app and a desktop music player. A personalized home screen will provide recommendations based on people's listening history, as well as where they are and what they're doing. YouTube Music has a comprehensive search function too, that you can use to find songs even if you don't know the name or artist.

As well as original movies and series the new YouTube Premium service includes ad-free videos and download options across YouTube. You can sign up to receive more information about launch dates here.

YouTube Music will begin rolling out on Tuesday in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea. But if you want to see what happens next down at the dojo with Daniel and the Cobra Kai, get ready to pony up two bucks more a month.
