Confusion over Meghan Markle's father attending royal wedding

Just days before he was due to walk his daughter Meghan Markle down the aisle to marry Prince Harry in what is set to be the most watched wedding in history, Thomas Markle is reportedly no longer attending the big day.

Meghan is said to be distraught over the news and has been desperately pleading with her father to change his mind, but he plans to stay at home in Mexico over fears of "embarrassing" his daughter any further.

May 4, 2018 A statement released from Kensington Palace confirms Thomas will be walking his daughter down the aisle. "She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr Markle in this hard situation", a Kensington Palace statement said. He checked himself out of the hospital so he could attend, but unfortunately in light of the photo news becoming public, "he doesn't want to embarrass the Royal Family or his daughter", and will not be attending.

He told TMZ that he did it to help recast his image, but that he deeply regretted the decision.

The reports of a possible no-show by Markle's father were splashed across the front pages of several British newspapers on Tuesday.

Thomas Markle will not attend the wedding over the way his decision to have staged paparazzi photos taken of him preparing for the wedding has been received and chose to miss the wedding to avoid embarrassing his daughter and the royal family, TMZ reports.

The palace had announced last week that Thomas Markle and his ex-wife, Doria Ragland, would play important roles in the wedding.

Thomas Markle is a former lighting director who worked on a variety of American television shows, including ABC Daytime's "General Hospital".

The decision comes after it emerged that he had used a picture agency to set up images of him working out and reading books about the United Kingdom in the run-up to the wedding.

She also said she did not harbour any ill feelings about the paparazzi photos it was revealed he staged on Monday.

Ms Ptak said she was thrilled to be chosen to bake the royal wedding cake, saying she shared the couple's values on "food provenance, sustainability, seasonality and most importantly flavour".

Harry and Ms Markle have invited 600 guests to the wedding, which will be followed by a gala reception hosted by the queen.

It is thought that if Mr Markle does not attend the wedding, Ms Markle's mother will accompany her down the aisle.

Markle Sr.'s daughter from another marriage, Samantha Markle, took the blame for the allegedly staged paparazzi photos. "It was my suggestion that to benefit him and to benefit the royal family that everyone looked good and they depict you as you are - in shape and doing healthy things". We had no idea he would be taken advantage of. "It was not for money".

TMZ reports that Markle Sr. felt the photographs look "stupid and hammy".
