'Avengers - Infinity War' Opens To Blockbuster Numbers

The latest Marvel big-hitter after the breakout success of Black Panther, Avengers sees a string of superheroes pitch in to save the universe from powerful purple alien Thanos (Josh Brolin).

Meanwhile, "Infinity War" is off to a super start, nabbing the fourth biggest preview gross ever and earning $95 million in 43 countries ahead of what could be a record-breaking debut in North America.

After Force Awakens, the biggest North American openings belong to Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($220 million) and Jurassic World ($208.8 million).

Largest single Saturday gross, largest single Sunday gross, largest April opening, largest spring opening, widest PG-13 release, and fastest film to reach $150 million, $200 million and $250 million.

While Disney began with a more cautious forecast of $210 million for the three-day opening weekend, the company on Friday raised that estimate to $225 million.

Director Jose and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War received a thunderous response at the worldwide box office. Only the $60,000 PSA earned by Wes Anderson's "Isle of Dogs" in its first weekend in limited release beats that amount.

Infinity War set records for the highest opening ever in Brazil, South Korea, and Germany.

Talking about the same, Rajender Singh Jyala, Chief Programming Officer, INOX Leisure Limited, said the advance booking response of Avengers: Infinity War is "outstanding across all their multiplexes". The studio also under-estimated The Avengers's performance by $7 million and under-estimated Avengers: Age of Ultron by $3.6 million. The Avengers comprises of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Vision (Paul Bettany), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan). The thriller - directed by John Krasinski and co-starring Krasinski and Emily Blunt - continues its impressive run with a domestic total of $148 million in four weeks.

STX's "I Feel Pretty" took a 50 percent drop, making $8.1 million for a 10-day total of $29.6 million. That finished with $459 million domestic and $1.4 billion worldwide.
