ZTE fights back against USA ban

"It is unacceptable that BIS insists on unfairly imposing the most severe penalty on ZTE" the company said in a statement, "The Denial Order will not only severely impact the survival and development of ZTE, but will also cause damages to all partners of ZTE including a large number of United States companies". "It is extremely unfair to ZTE and we can not accept it!" the company said on Friday, the first time the company has officially commented on the ban on Monday.

Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE Corp said on Friday a USA decision to impose sanctions on the company was unfair and threatens the survival of the technology giant as it pledged to safeguard its rights through all legal means.

The US alleges that the Chinese company had broken a settlement agreement with repeated false statements, and the ban was to be punished for violating the terms of a settlement agreement. It said as well that it introduced a compliance training program and in just 2017, spent more than $5 million in a compliance program for export control. Washington has also pressured USA companies not to buy networking equipment and smartphones from ZTE and rival Huawei over concerns they could pose a national security risk due to potential for spying by Beijing.

ZTE also said that the ban "will not only severely impact the survival and development of ZTE, but will also cause damages to all partners of ZTE including a large number of USA companies". The Commerce Department said ZTE reneged on a pledge to discipline employees who were involved in violating USA controls on technology sales to Iran and North Korea and instead paid them bonuses.

"Refusal orders will not only seriously endanger the survival of ZTE, but also hurt the interests of all ZTE's partners including a large number of U.S. companies".

The US's trade war with China intensified this week as the government imposed a seven-year ban on sales of components to the network and handset vendor.

ZTE smartphones aren't the most popular, but can be intriguing.

Four days after we first reached out, ZTE has finally offered us an official reaction to the news.

China has started to channel more energy into development of top-end semiconductors, a significant part of its broader manufacturing improvement plan.

Progress has been made in closing the technological gap and chip makers attracted by the huge market potential are increasing their presence in China. "It's better to rely on oneself than to seek help from others", he said.
