Meteorologists stay busy at National Weather Service during April blizzard

1 p.m.: National Weather Service will issue a simulated tornado watch for Minnesota and Wisconsin.

A tornado watch means weather conditions make tornadoes possible in those counties.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a strong frontal system will approach the region Sunday afternoon and will cross the area Monday, April 16. It's also how many tornadoes there were in the state a year ago, according to the National Weather Service.

The immediate forecast does not include the spring and summertime hazard, but rather a significant winter storm expected to arrive Friday afternoon.

Rain and storms are making for a stormy morning in parts of north Alabama, but it may be a good thing when all is said and done. The main threats are looking to be more high winds and large hail, but an isolated tornado or two can't be ruled out.

As the day cools further into the evening, there is a chance of a mix of rain and snow and possibly graupel, also known as soft hail, on Tuesday. Breezy, with a north northwest wind 17 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 29 miles per hour.

The area will experience showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m.

Fire/rescue officials in Baton Rouge reported a tree fallen on a home near Oneal Road and Antioch Road, the result of thunderstorm wind damage, at 8:05 a.m.

Freeze Warnings have been issued for Monday morning with another cold morning to start the work-week. The threat for flash flooding is also a concern and a FLASH FLOOD WATCH is also in effect for the entire Mid-South overnight and Saturday.
