Competitive Gamer Billy Mitchell Now Banned From Twin Galaxies

The organization discovered that Billy Mitchell's famous taped Donkey Kong score performances of 1,047,200 from the King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters and 1,050,200 (the Mortgage Brokers score) were "not produced by the direct feed output of an original unmodified Donkey Kong Arcade PCB".

The advantage of Mitchell's emulator is unknown, but it could have included things like save states (so he could try again from a certain point if he died) or allowed him to alter certain aspects of the game to more easily progress further and further.

The core infraction in this case is that Mitchell submitted three scores played on emulation software that he claimed he played on original Donkey Kong arcade hardware.

The result? Twin Galaxies administrative staff "unanimously chose to remove all of Bill Mitchell's scores as well as ban him from participating in our competitive leaderboards", a statement reads.

Almost two months ago, Mitchell's scores were removed from the leaderboards at Donkey Kong Forum after frame-by-frame analysis of the board transitions showed visual artifacts unique to a Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME) version of the game. Rogers, it's important to note, was the official witness and Twin Galaxies referee that previously confirmed many of Mitchell's scores for the scoreboard.

"Throughout every step of this investigation, Billy Mitchell had the opportunity to answer questions and contribute to the public dispute thread", reads the statement.

The site will likely have to live with this stain forever, but it had no choice but to make this move if it wished to remain relevant in the future.

Notorious arcade gamer Billy Mitchell has been stripped of his high scores and banned from submitting more to official leaderboards, because he cheated his way into the record books.

Twin Galaxies, the preeminent source (and adjudicator) for video game records worldwide, has made a decision to strip Mitchell of his infamous Donkey Kong records after months of investigation revealed he cheated to produce his high scores.

Almost two months ago, Mitchell's scores were also removed from the leaderboards at Donkey Kong Forum.

After years of enjoying his reign at the top of the Donkey Kong leaderboard, legendary arcade gamer Billy Mitchell has officially fallen from grace.
