China's Xiaomi aims to cement comeback with new smartphone

It comes with a 15.6-inch 1920x1080 resolution anti-glare screen with a narrow frame (9.9mm) and offers 72 percent NTSC color gamut, 300nits of maximum brightness, and 178-degree viewing angles. The main attraction of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is the integration of a bezel-less display coupled with a dual camera mechanism on the rear. Under the hood, the phone runs Android 8.0 Oreo with Xiaomi's MIUI on top.

The company showed off image comparisons between the Mi MIX 2S' AI camera and the iPhone X, and was brash enough to call the "iPhone X is crushed" a couple of times.

Apart from features which have already been confirmed in the launch, some speculated features include a glass back cover, 5.99-inch screen size, and a glossy finish. The handset also is compatible with the Qi wireless charging platform (more on that later).

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S will be available in a black and white variant.

The device is powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC with Adreno 630 GPU. The Xiaomi phone is packing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, the same one that's powering the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. The rear camera set-up has features of AI-based scene recognition which is claimed to recognise up to 206 scenes.

While the design has largely been kept the same, there are some changes which make it different than the Mi Mix 2.

The Mi Mix 2S also has vertically-aligned dual cameras on its back - a distinct upgrade from the the Mi Mix 2's single camera. It will be available in China from April 3, with a global launch slated to take place soon. With that being said, the cameras on the Mi MIX 2S have got a DxOMark score of 101 points which is very much impressive.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is available in Ceramic White and Ceramic Black color option and it's priced at U.S. $527 for the 6 Gb with 64 GB storage model, while the 128 GB model costs U.S. $575. The camera also has dual-pixel technology, originally found in high-end digital SLRs. It is a dual sim device with dual standby support. The wireless charger has been priced at CNY 99 (roughly Rs 1,000). It packs a 3,400 mAh Battery with Fast Charging.

The phone has been priced starting at RMB 3,299 for the 6GB+64GB variant followed by RMB 3,599 for the 6GB+128GB variant.
