NASCAR races at Martinsville snowed out, postponed until Monday

Snow blanketed the Martinsville Speedway on Saturday night, postponing the STP 500 which was planned for Sunday. The race will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1.

Snow began falling Saturday afternoon, stopping the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race after 23 laps. Both the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series' STP 500 and the conclusion of the Camping World Truck Series' Alpha Energy 250 will take place on Monday.

Parts of the region received a foot of snow, making travel to the half-mile facility a logistical challenge.

"Way more snow than anticipated last night", he wrote. Shortly thereafter, NASCAR postponed the race and rescheduled it until Monday.

While snow also canceled the Cup Series qualifying session, the tour did get 100 minutes of practice on Saturday morning and will start based on team owner points.

Martin Truex Jr. is on the pole, with Kyle Busch joining him on the front row.
