Apple to fix blabbermouth Siri bug that reads your private notifications aloud

The problem was reported by Brazilian website MacMagazine earlier this week. They should be enough to control the problem until Apple rolls out a bug fix. Apple in the statement said,"We are aware of the issue and it will be addressed in an upcoming software update". That apart, a new bug discovered by Mac Magazine seems to be the most notorious one.

Siri's behaviour becomes a privacy issue because it can read out messages and emails from third-party apps such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Gmail, even if an iPhone is locked. As for iOS 11.3 beta versions, the bug can be fixed by the time the final version comes out.

As of iOS 11, you can set message notifications to be hidden on your Lock screen - you can see that a message has arrived, but its content is hidden. Probably, the issue seems to affect messaging notifications. Choose the app that you don't want to show notifications and swipe its "Show on Lock Screen" toggle. You can also disable lock screen notifications on a per-app basis by going to Settings Notifications and then select a specific app. Try living without Siri - she's been implicated in several security bypass bugs before, so why take the risk unless you really need Apple's voice recognition services? If prompted, Siri will read out whatever details are within the app without checking to make sure it's the primary user.

According to Reuters, which was provided copies of Apple's developer agreement, app makers have to get "clear and conspicuous consent" from users before collecting or storing face data, and can only do so for a "legitimate feature" of an app.

But the feature has been around for a while, previously allowing users to manually change their settings to hide notification previews. Siri only asks you to unlock the phone, either through Face ID, pin code, or thumbprint, for iMessages.

Under the "When Unlocked" setting, you can choose from "Always" and 'Never'.
