Poole's buzzer-beating 3-pointer lifts MI over Houston 64-63

MI knocked out Houston with a deep buzzer-beater by Jordan Poole to beat the Cougars 64-63 on Saturday.

MI will play the North Carolina/Texas A&M victor Thursday at the Staples Center.

Kansas led just 31-26 at halftime, when Delgado had already piled up 12 points and 12 rebounds, and was forced to make some significant adjustments in the locker room.

Poole's teammates weren't surprised the freshman reserve would hit the clutch shot. Devin Davis had a chance to seal the win for the No. 6 seed Cougars, but he missed a pair of foul shots with 3.6 seconds left. Houston opted not to guard the inbound pass, giving Isaiah Livers a clean look as he rifled a pass to Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman near half court.

Cheryl Wray covers sports for the Alabama Media Group. Moe Wagner, Michigan's star big man who scored 12 points and added seven rebounds, slowed his pace when he saw Davis and realized the other side of Poole's miracle 3.

Poole finished the night with eight points on 3-for-5 shooting in 11 minutes.

Houston missed two free throws just moments earlier that could have sealed the game or at least guaranteed overtime. MI trailed 63-61 in the final minute, and that could have been even a wider lead if the Cougars had hit some foul shots. And just like Burke, Poole now has an NCAA Tournament moment, that will live on forever in MI basketball history.

MI converted eight straight at one point to take a 57-53 lead with 3:42 to go.

Rob Gray led the Cougars with 23 points and went 4-for-4 from three-point range.

As a team, MI went 8-for-30 from beyond the arc and committed 22 fouls.

Michigan's led by as many as six points in the first half, while Houston led by five points in the second half.

His night would have been a whole lot better if the game ended there.

Move over Trey Burke, because when it comes great shots in MI basketball history, you have company.
