Jay Weatherill resigns as party leader following Labor loss in SA election

In the clip, the SA-BEST party leader can be seen at Spain's famous Running of the Bulls festival, and hits back at recent attacks from his political rivals.

The established parties-the centre-right Liberals and Labor-face a huge challenge from a new minor party, SA Best, led by ex-federal independent senator, centrist Nick Xenophon.

Australia's most successful Paralympian is vying for a victory of a different kind this weekend - to secure a seat in the South Australian parliament.

South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill said that the battery would benefit the broader community, Xinhua news agency reported.

The surge of pre-election-day votes could be an encouraging sign for the Liberal leader, Steven Marshall, who took the unusual step of voting early himself and urged others to do so too, while the Icac report into the Oakden aged care scandal was still fresh in the minds of voters.

Mr Xenophon was trying to make the best of the election result.

'Now, I'm so sorry that we couldn't bring home another one to you.

"We're going to lower people's taxes, we're going to lower their cost of living and we're going to create more jobs in this state", he told reporters.

"This is the single biggest issue facing South Australians", he said.

The Liberal Party's win in South Australia is an endorsement of the federal government's energy policy, Malcolm Turnbull says.

He acknowledged Mr Weatherill, who shortly before had called him to concede defeat.

Labor has campaigned on planned capital works of almost $2 billion, the Liberals have committed to tax cuts and Mr Xenophon has not revealed costings, but urged voters to look at his track record at state and federal levels over two decades.

More than 1.2 million South Australians head to the polls on Saturday for one of the most unpredictable elections in the state's history. The Liberal Party crashed by eight per cent yet it was able to form majority government.
