Patient forced by doctors to use amputated leg as pillow

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma said the state government will take action once the full information about the incident is available.

The incident occurred at the Maharani Laxmibai Medical College, prompting the Uttar Pradesh government to suspend four staff and order a departmental probe into it.

This is the shocking moment a man used his own left FOOT as a pillow after it was amputated following a bus crash.

The hospital administration had vowed strict action against the culprits.

After the initial investigations, the college suspended a senior resident orthopaedic doctor, an EMO nurse in-charge and one other person over the incident.

The man, who was a cleaner in a school bus, had sustained serious injuries when the bus carrying children of a private school turned turtle in a bid to avoid a collision with a tractor in Mauranipur area in Jhansi district on Saturday.

In fact, the relative of the patient is the one who used the leg to prop his head up because they couldn't find anything else.

While being taken inside the hospital on a stretcher, youth's amputated leg was put under his head. "The patient's attendant used the leg". The relatives of the patient, who goes by the name Ghanshyam, said, "When we reached the hospital, we saw his leg being used as a headrest".

"Also, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been asked to submit a report, as to whether any instructions or guidelines on the subject have been issued to the doctors and hospitals, along with status of mechanism to monitor their implementation, across the country", the NHRC said in a statement.

Cases of medical negligence aren't new in Uttar Pradesh. The government is also investigating the hospital involved. And an unlicensed doctor was arrested last month for allegedly infecting at least 46 people with HIV by re-using a syringe.
