The Inscrutable North Korea

South Korean senior officials left for the US on Thursday to brief US President Donald Trump and his staff, likely to include Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, on the outcomes of their recent trip to North Korea.

President Donald Trump made a joke about North Korea's recent willingness to conduct talks with the USA, taking personal credit for the development.

US officials and experts believe North Korea also needs more time to create facilities capable of mass-producing missiles, engines and other components - a challenge to any country even without the constraints of stringent worldwide sanctions.

USA media reports say South Korea and the US will kick off their annual joint military drills at the end of this month.

"From looking at the news or Twitter, I believe President Trump is positive about the results of the North Korea visit (by South Korean officials)", Mr Moon told political party leaders. He has nicknamed the North Korean strongman "Little Rocketman", in a roundabout way called him "short and fat" and countered Kim's bragging about North Korea's nuclear capabilities by tweeting that he also has a "Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!"

After Washington, Chung will later visit China and Russian Federation to brief officials, while Suh will travel to Japan. Up until now, they have kept the stance that their nuclear weapons program would never be up for debate. It could be that Kim is genuinely keen on dialogue with the United States.

Chung told reporters on Tuesday that he received a message from North Korea that was intended for the United States, but didn't disclose what it was. A North Korean representative canceled a meeting with Pence at the last minute.

The two Koreas also announced they would set up a leader-to-leader hotline and hold a summit next month at their heavily armed border. He is ambitious and has a desire to win."Mr Kim's portrayal of a seasoned diplomat began with a televised New Year's Day speech, exchanging his tiresome Mao tunic for a snazzy gray Western suit as he reached out to South Korea to improve relations".

On Tuesday, Chung announced the North Koreans were prepared to discuss denuclearization with the U.S. as long as their security was assured, prompting tentative optimism in Washington. Moreover, they point out that North Korea has put denuclearization on the table, which is a shift from the position Pyongyang has previously held.

Kim said the North would halt provocative missile and nuclear tests while talks are under way, it added.

That made the Olympics "very successful", according to Trump, who said South Korean President Moon Jae-in credited the United States for having "a lot to do with that, if not everything". "If military threats to the North Korea decrease and regime safety is guaranteed, the North showed that it has no reason to retain nukes".

Former officials in Washington and Tokyo reacted with scepticism to the North's offer of talks on denuclearisation, seeing a familiar pattern of threats followed by talks that fail to win significant concessions.
