Russell Wilson arrives at spring training with Yankees

The Seattle Seahawks quarterback originally was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2010, but he now can call himself an honorary Yankee after NY acquired his rights in a trade with the Texas Rangers on February 7.

The Texas Rangers, who had owned Wilson's baseball rights, traded Wilson to the Yankees Feb. 7. Wilson was in the same hitting group as Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

Wilson's late father was a life-long Yankees, so naturally, the QB grew up dreaming of one day dawning those famous pinstripes. However, Wilson will only be a part of the Yankees during Spring Training, and won't participate in any games. "They don't know me", Wilson said. It will be a unique opportunity for the young Yankees' players, who came within one game of the World Series, to get a taste of what it takes to become the best in their sport. "If you really know me, baseball's been part of my blood", Wilson added. He's a third-round draft choice who overcame the odds of being 5-foot-10 and 5/8ths inches tall, turning into the best quarterback in Seahawks history, one who could be a Hall of Famer someday. "You see me make plays on the football field, a lot of that is a direct correlation to baseball", Wilson continued.

Monday, Wilson was in Yankees camp getting in some work. A 2014 Super Bowl champion, the 29-year-old worked out at second base in early drills with shortstop Didi Gregorius. "I always watched them". "I was pretty pumped", he said.

And while it may just seem like a stunt for Wilson to draw more attention to himself during the NFL's off-season, the Seahawk signal caller told Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times what he thinks of those comments. I want to learn as much as I can.

North Carolina State offered Wilson football and baseball scholarships, and the Baltimore Orioles drafted Wilson in the 41st round of baseball's draft out of high school.

Wilson will be here for about a week, but the Yankees have already stated that he won't play in a game. I wouldn't be good at basketball, but baseball, it's like riding a bike once you get back out there for me. "I'll be ready to swing. hack away and turn some double plays". Wilson spent parts of two seasons playing Class A ball in the Rockies organization before he was selected in the third round of the 2012 National Football League draft by Seattle.
