Toronto police to provide update on Bruce McArthur case

Toronto Police have scheduled a news conference to update the media on the investigation into the 66-year-old self-employed landscaper and investigators wouldn't officially reveal any details on Thursday. The Toronto man was a subject of Project Prism, and police have said he had a sexual relationship with McArthur.

Initially, Police identified only one set of remains - those of Andrew Kinsman, another one of the men McArthur is accused of killing. Police say they have yet to confirm the identity of the other remains found.

"There's even some ... occurrences where there's been a sudden death that we're looking at", he said.

McArthur is also charged with the premeditated murders of Majeed Kayhan, 58, 47-year-old Dean Lisowick, and Selim Esen, 44. He also said police believe they are working with multiple murder scenes.

Idsinga said he believes that there are other victims.

He added that police are tracing McArthur's whereabouts "as far back as we can go".

As recently as six weeks before McArthur's arrest, Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders tried to dispel fears that a serial killer was at large.

McArthur was charged January 18 with the murder of Kinsman and Esen. This brings to six the number of charges of the capital crime now attributed to the former landscape contractor. After an excavation of the backyard did not lead to further discovery of human remains, Idsinga said the police investigation of the property may not yet be complete.

When asked how the two latest victims were identified, Idsinga said they used dental records.

Police are also looking at two other properties in the city, and have reached out to police forces overseas, where McArthur may have travelled, for help.

Excavation at the Toronto home where McArthur stored items for his landscaping business - and where the planters were found - ended on February 14, and the home was released back to its owners.
