White House to unveil immigration plan Monday

"After decades of inaction by Congress it's time we work together to solve this issue once and for all", she said.

It "will fulfill the four agreed-upon pillars: securing the border and closing legal loop holes, ending extended family chain migration, cancelling the visa lottery, and providing a permanent solution on DACA".

Alexander asked Sanders what President Donald Trump is doing to prevent school shootings, especially considering the fact that there have already been 11 school shootings so far this year and we're not even through with January.

Democrats and activist groups say it should be cause for the White House to back new gun-control laws, a call rejected by Trump.

"The White House refused to engage in negotiations over the weekend", Schumer said Monday.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who said he had offered and then rescinded border wall funding in exchange for Dreamer protections, said Wednesday he was looking for a reset.

"In short, it's totally unacceptable to the president and should be declared dead on arrival", she said.

"His views are shared by the vast majority of the American people, and have bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives", she continued.

Trump also wants to limit the family members that immigrants are able to sponsor to join them in the US and either replace or transform a visa lottery aimed at increasing diversity. "I think that it certainly went much smoother than it has in the past, but also the president was putting pressure and standing firm on exactly what he was willing to do and what he wasn't".

Trump past year announced that he was ending the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, but gave Congress until March 5 to come up with a legislative fix.

That measure, however, could be laden down with the White House's entire immigration wish list.

The Senate is slated to vote today at noon to proceed on a proposal that will fund the government through February 8.

"Cryin' Chuck Schumer fully understands, especially after his humiliating defeat, that if there is no Wall, there is no DACA", Trump tweeted shortly before midnight Tuesday. The framework "takes into account all of the conversations we've had", Sanders said. "Again, some days are sure better than others and certainly we all fall short, but I try to be the strongest Christian that I can every day".

But the deepening rift between the two sides could send the government careening into a partial shutdown later this week, if Democrats insist on approval an amnesty for illegal immigrant "Dreamers" as part of any action on a new spending bill, which is due Friday.

As a result, Trump has been forced to ask Congress for US taxpayer funds for the wall.

The White House and congressional Democrats are scrambling to resolve their differences on the politically charged immigration issue to avoid the possibility of another government shutdown in two-and-a-half weeks.
