Ugandan president says he loves Trump: "He talks to Africans frankly"

Mr Museveni's comments are in opposition to the reaction of many leaders who have condemned Mr Trump's language. "I love Trump because he talks to Africans frankly".

Mr Trump later denied using the derogatory phrase, saying he had merely used "tough" language, although many officials present at the White House meeting have confirmed that "sh*thole" was the exact word used.

"Integration is about the future of our people", President Museveni intensely conveyed to the Legislators of the East African Community.

While many US lawmakers and politicians overseas reacted with condemnations of Donald Trump's reported "sh*thole countries" remark, the president of Uganda responded by saying he loved the frankness.

He said: "Donald Trump speaks to Africans frankly. Africans need to solve their problems", he wrote. He added that Africans need to solve their problems and need to be strong saying that in the world, one can not survive when weak. "And it is the fault of Africans that they are weak", he said.

His comments were in stark contrast to the outrage expressed by other African leaders.

Museveni, 73, has been in power in Uganda since 1986 and could potentially seek a sixth term in office in 2021 if a bill to remove presidential age limits is passed.

Kampala shied away from the chorus of indignation from African countries after Donald Trump threw the offensive jibe at the continent and Haiti while speaking at a bipartisan meeting in the White House nearly two weeks ago. No stranger to controversy, on Monday he described Uganda as a "pre-industrial society" and said he regretted removing the death sentence, saying the move had been "a recipe for chaos".
