White House changes phone message to blame democrats for 'holding funding hostage'

President Donald Trump claimed victory Monday after Democrats agreed to a stopgap deal to reopen United States government offices and end a political crisis in Washington.

Senate Democrats gave no indication that they have softened their requirement that any deal to re-open the government must come with a side agreement on immigration. One was with a bipartisan group of lawmakers and another with Senate Democratic Leader Charles E. Schumer of NY, who said he even accepted a multibillion-dollar proposal that would have included funding for Trump's proposed wall along the Mexican border. "The president must take yes for an answer".

Trump "continued conversations on the next steps on responsible immigration reform" during a lunch with Republican senators Monday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

The White House has said it won't negotiate on immigration until Democrats vote to reopen the government. "Schumer and the Democrats hold the government for millions of Americans and our troops hostage".

Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer says Democrats in the chamber will vote to reopen the government, which has been partially shutdown for three days.

The vote Monday will prove to be a test of unity and resolve among Democrats.

A group of mostly Democrats and a few Republicans voted against the legislation, which didn't include an immigration measure.

Democrats chose to end the three-day "shutdown" after making progress with ruling Republicans toward securing the fate of hundreds of thousands of so-called "Dreamers" brought to America illegally as children. That came as he pushed back from 1 a.m.to noon Monday a vote on a three-week government funding bill. Scarborough said. "Never. Barack Obama was a strong leader". Congress has until March, when it officially expires, to turn the program into legislation. The Dems just want illegal immigrants to pour into our nation unchecked.

The decision on whether to move forward was in the hands of Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his Democratic counterpart, Senator Chuck Schumer, although uncertainty remained over how President Donald Trump would respond to any deal. In an attempt to show that he was working hard during the shutdown, the President posed for a photo of him on the phone in the Oval Office on Satueday, wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat. "Or do they want to retain that issue and run, and say [that] Democrats wouldn't let us build this wall?"

"What's even more frustrating than President Trump's intransigence is the way he seems amenable to these compromises before completely switching positions and backing off. Negotiating with President Trump is like negotiating with Jell-O", Schumer said Saturday.

" I'm gonna take everybody at their word", said Alabama Democrat Doug Jones, who is still in his first month as a senator.

Trump canceled a trip to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida that included a major fundraiser on the anniversary of his first year as president. But it was unclear exactly how much progress had been made.

"I think they miscalculated on the shutdown", Cornyn said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., scheduled an early Monday morning vote for a short-term funding plan to keep the government open through February 8.

Schumer confirmed that from the Senate floor, saying that since his in-person meeting with Trump on Friday, the pair hadn't spoke. "Today would be a good day to end it all". DACA refers to the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which provides legal status and work permits to immigrants brought to the US illegally as children.

Graham said Miller is out of the "mainstream" with his immigration views.

As the government was grinding to a halt, Schumer likened dealing with the Trump White House to negotiating with jello.

While the powers at be inside Trump's White House might feel as though they are getting their point across loud and clear, it has caused some to question its appropriateness.
