January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month

The organization lists tips on its website meant to help citizens recognize possible warning signs of human trafficking so they can notify authorities anytime they believe they have spotted victims in need of aid.

More people in Northeast Florida have been making calls to a national human trafficking hotline.

With little coverage of human trafficking in the media, Americans are unaware of the severity of the issue.

All are welcome to attend.

According to Lieutenant Mathis, BCSO officials are seeing more and more human trafficking victims in our area.

"Sex trafficking is a growing problem in Montana", said Daines. They are looking for toothpaste and toothbrushes, hairbrushes and hair ties, shampoo and conditioner, socks, underwear, sweatpants, baby wipes, and water.

"This is our second year that we have been able to do the blue hair campaign".

Williams said JSO, along with state and federal partners, previous year helped identify or rescue 66 victims of human trafficking and made 54 human trafficking arrests, resulting in eight federal indictments. Between 2015 and 2016, the rate of human trafficking rose 35.7 percent and the number will surely continue to increase unless we work to prevent this national crisis.

He added that police expect human trafficking to pick up due to large crowds at the Auto Show, but he has one message for anyone thinking about going that route: "Just don't do it".

"Alabamians can also play a valuable role in combating human trafficking by being aware of suspicious activity in public places and reporting it promptly to local law enforcement", added Attorney General Marshall.

While the legislature passed a plethora of bills in 2017 to help put an end to human trafficking, no change of law alone will bring trafficking to its end. The typical age of children pulled into commercial sex is as young as 12 to 14.

"When we look at demand across the nation, there is seemingly more demand in the state". Would it help us to realize the signs that something is wrong?
